“Martin Jaekels was born in Buchanon, Wisconsin. His father Math. J. lived in Appleton,Wisconsin. Martin Jaekels studied in Innsbruck from 1904 to 1907. He had studied in St. Lawrence as well, before he came to Innsbruck. We don´t know more about Jaekels.”- Courtesy of Peter Goller, Universitätsarchiv Innsbruck
From The Post-Crescent, Appleton, Wisconsin, 06 Aug 1907, Page 5:
“At Innsbruck, in Tyrol, Bishop Fox ordained two candidates for the priesthood from Appleton, Wis., who were visiting there at the time. This is the first time an American bishop has ordained a priest of his own diocese in a foreign land. The young priests – Edward Schimberg and M. Jaekels – are now on the ocean returning to their diocese await their appointment to some parish.
The bishop rested there for a week, being joined by Fathers Geissler and Marks, who had returned from the holy land.”
