“Newark, July 25 – In the presence of 24 members of the American hierarchy, 61 Monsignori, nearly 700 priests and 5,000 laymen, the most Rev. Thomas Henry McLaughlin, was consecrated as the first auxiliary bishop of Roman Catholic diocese of Newark today.

Besides Bishop [Joseph H.] Schlarman, six other Innsbruck classmates of Bishop McLaughlin participated in the ceremony as bearers of the offertory gifts […]. The six were the Revs. Francis X. Winsch, Augustine L. Ganster, Hubert Ostermann, O.M.C., Daniel Hyland, John LaFarge, S.J. and Francis J. Epstein.”
