From Catholic Union and Times, Buffalo, NY, 30 Jul 1908, Page 5:
“Death of William Schifferli
One of the saddest funerals that has taken place in Buffalo was that of the above young man, son of Mr. F.X. Schifferli, editor of the Voksfreund, at Seven Dolors Church yesterday morning. Returning from Innsbruck only a few weeks ago, where he had made his studies for the priesthood, he was too ill to be ordained, and gradually sank until death claimed him. Four years ago, after completing his studies at Canisius College, he with three other young men started for the great university in the Tyrol, there to finish the course necessary for the priesthood. After a time his studies, in which he was most earnest, began to tell upon him and his health subsequently gave way.
[…]
Among the bearers were Messrs. Hoernschmeyer and Winter, young men who went to Innsbruck with Mr. Schifferli, and who will be ordained Aug. 8th.”
