Föhren, den 4.4.1914.
Sehr Geehrter Herr Schimberg!
Es hat uns sehr gefreut daß Sie nach unser ein bischen gedacht haben. Ich empfehle mich u. meine Kinder recht herzlichen in Ihr Gebet ein. Die Kinder sind jetzt als etwas größer geworden in der Zeit, daß Sie hier waren. Der älteste ist 20 J. alt. hat nächstes Jahr die letzte Ziehung. Wenn es dann gut ausgeht. Die Tochter ist 18 J. alt. und ist bei M. Gladbach im Kloster in Dienst, das Jüngste......17 J. alt ist auch in Dienst.
Die Zeiten allerdings, alles ist vertauscht, vieles ist Lebensmittel sind treuer. Großes Zeichen läßt aber doch gar nichts mehr hören.
Wie hab ich schon so oft an höher Gedacht

Dear Mr. Schimberg,
We were very pleased that you have thought of us a little. I most warmly commend myself and my children to your prayers. The children have grown somewhat since the time you were here. The eldest is 20 years old; he faces his final draft lottery next year—hoping for a good outcome. My daughter is 18 and is in service at a convent near M. Gladbach; the youngest... is 17 and also in service.
Times have certainly changed; everything is different, and many foodstuffs are more expensive. Yet there is no news at all from the "Great Sign."
How often I have thought of you.
